(random morning thoughts from the Chief Coffee Drinker)
The ‘why’ is not just a company statement. The why is your fuel. It is your map and your compass in a world full of distractions. Distractions are your biggest danger. In your entrepreneurial journeys, deciding what you don’t do is as important as deciding what you will do.
You need to stop thinking as an entrepreneur and start feeling again. Start to do what you do more consciously, with feeling, in the now. Instead of just seeing the now as a stepping stone to your next goal, try and live each day to its fullest – to make every customer count instead of seeing them just as a ticket to financial targets. Yesterday, for example, I bought a wonderful corn cooked on the side of the road in Johannesburg for a few cents. The lady was friendly, helpful and I felt truly valued as a customer. I only spent a few cents (12 South African Rands) yet I was treated better than I am in shops. She knows if she treats me well on each visit and that her modest corn is fresh I will come again and again when I drive past her. I’m sure she thinks of the end of the month, but for her each ‘me’ is valued.
She’s living in the now. The question is, are you?
